IMPORTANT: Policy Regarding Attendance and Grading Procedures
Friday, February 08, 2008

Brooks Elementary would like to make all parents aware of an important policy regarding attendance and grading procedures. If your child misses a day of school and it is an unexcused absence, your child will receive a "0" for that day's work.

This means it is crucial for any absence to be followed by a parent or doctor's note within three days of returning to school. The note should explain the reason for the absence. School officials will decide if the absence is excused by following state and local board guidelines. Reasons for excused absences include 1) illness, 2) legal quarantine, 3) emergency conditions as determined by the principal, 4) inclement weather which would be dangerous to the life and health of the child as determined by the principal, 5) death in the immediate family, and 6) prior permission of the principal and consent of the parent or legal guardian. (See page 30 of the Lauderdale County Board of Education Handbook for more information.)

It is our desire that each child at Brooks Elementary experience success in the classroom. A good working relationship between school and home is an important ingredient in this endeavor.

Thank you for your cooperation.
